This will be a very short post.
But what I wanted to talk about
is very important in terms of
how your outfit will carry out.
That is...
Sleeves.
Sleeves are often overlooked.
They are seen as not having any
real significant value to your look.
This is a post to say otherwise.
Let's take a look at some of the ensembles
at the Burberry Prorsum Fall 2011 show...
Skinny sleeves.
So skinny they cling to the skin
and emphasize the curves of the arm.
They are like a long-sleeved shirt.
They add a very modern touch to the trench, no?
Now let's look at something different...
Voluminous sleeves.
They are reminicent of 60s fashion
and give a very "haute couture" feel.
These separate looks
each have very different flairs,
don't they?
Note that all three outfits
consist of trench coats.
But why do they each have
their own character?
It all depends on
the fit of sleeve.
With skinny ones,
you have a contemporary
and "relaxed" edge.
On the other hand,
bigger sleeves
make the coat
feel more fancy,
sophisticated,
and retro.
See the difference?
So the next time you
put together an outfit,
just remember that
the fit of your sleeves
affect everything!
affect everything!
Happy weekend!

I know exactly what you mean - I'm rather picky about sleeves. I like the style in the first runway image - if the sleeves don't come over the backs of my hands then the style doesn't suit me. Great observation.

You make a good point - sleeves definitely have the potential to make a look completely different! Love the volumous sleeve trend, it makes an outfit so fun and whimsical :)
